SPEEDING UP LOAD TIME FROM FLOPPY DISKS
When TV*TEXT Professional starts up, it loads all of the render preference
files found in the RPrefs drawer from disk. If you are using a floppy
disk, this may take up to 2 or 3 minutes. You can speed this process
up by removing those preference files that you don't use from the RPrefs
drawer. Do this on Workbench by opening the RPrefs drawer and dragging
those preferences you wish to remove into the Trashcan, or into another
drawer. Removing unwanted preference files from the RPrefs drawer
will also make more memory available to TV*TEXT Professional.
HARD DISK INSTALLATION
The instructions for installing this program as described in the
TV*TEXT Professional User's Guide are correct, but two points need
clarifying:
1. You will not be able to drag the Trashcan icon into the TVT Pro
drawer's window. This is OK since it's unnecessary to do so.
2. You will not be able to drag the TVT Pro drawer icon into its
own window. This too is OK.
HARD DISKS AND OVERSCAN
When using 16 color, Maximum Overscan, Hi Res Interlace or Hi Res No Lace
screens, some hard disk/controller combinations will report read/write
errors. This is due to the machine bandwidth required to support this
display mode. IT IS NOT A PROBLEM CAUSED BY BUGS IN TV*TEXT PROFESSIONAL.
If you experience such problems, the following suggestions may help:
1. Make sure your hard disk has been formatted using the
Fast File System (FFS).
2. Check with the manufacturer of your hard disk controller to
make sure you have the latest version of the controller software.
3. When saving or loading, either drag the screen down to the
bottom of the display, or flip it behind the Workbench screen.
(NOTE: TV*Text Professional closes the Workbench screen if no other
applications are running. You can prevent this by opening a CLI
on Workbench before running TV*TEXT Professional, but this will
waste chip memory).
4. If you are using a Genlock, removing it or the video input to it
may help in some cases.
If all else fails, your options are using less overscan and/or less colors,
or replacing your hard disk controller. REMEMBER: This problem
is a result of the screen mode you have chosen and the hardware you
are using, not TV*TEXT Professional.
OVERSCAN SCREEN DIMENSIONS
The NTSC Screen sizes for this version of TV*TEXT Professional are:
Mode None Medium Maximum
Lo Res NoLace 320 x 200 336 x 222 352 x 240
Lo Res I'Lace 320 x 400 336 x 444 352 x 480
Hi Res NoLace 640 x 200 672 x 222 704 x 240
Hi Res I'Lace 640 x 400 672 x 444 704 x 480
SCREEN POSITIONING AND OVERSCAN
When using MAXIMUM overscan, you may need to shift the position of your
display to the left using the Workbench(tm) Preferences Program.
1. Start TV*TEXT Professional with Hi Res Interlace and Maximum Overscan.
2. Move the mouse pointer as far as it will go to the top of the screen.
3. Click the left mouse button once. This will cause the title bar
to drop down and become visible.
4. Make sure that both screen depth gadgets at the right end of the
title bar are visible. If they are not, you will have to reposition
your display a bit to the left using the display positioning
control in Workbench Preferences. See your Amiga manual for
information on how to do this.
OVERSCAN AND MOREROWS
MoreRows is a program (not included with TV*TEXT Professional) which
permits the user to increase the dimensions of the standard Workbench
screen through the use of overscan.
The use of MoreRows will affect how TV*TEXT Professional interprets the
Overscan selections in the Screen Format requester. If NONE is selected
TV*TEXT Professional will open with the same degree of overscan as
the MoreRow'd Workbench screen adjusted for the selected screen mode.
If MEDIUM or MAXIMUM are selected, it will open an overscan screen whose
overscan dimensions are not greater than the ones above, but not less than
the degree of overscan added to the standard Workbench by MoreRows.
For example, if the dimension of a MoreRow'd Workbench screen is 672 x 222,
selecting either NONE or MEDIUM degrees of overscan in Hi Res No Lace
will result in a 672 x 222 screen size. The same choices in Hi Res Interlace
would result in a 672 x 444 screen size; in Lo Res a 336 x 222 screen.
Selecting MAXIMUM will open a 704 x 240 screen in Hi Res No Lace, etc.
WORKBENCH INFO PROGRAM BUG
There is a bug in all versions of Info prior to 1.3.1 which can
garble entries made to the Tool Types list. You may be using this
program to customize the startup of TV*TEXT Professional. You will
not encounter this bug if you follow the instructions for adding, deleting,
and modifying the Tool Types in Appendix A of the User's Manual. The
procedure described there avoids modifying an existing entry in the
Tool Types list by first Delete'ing the entry then Add'ing it anew.
